Die Artemis Expedition
„Dieser Aufnäher entstand nach einem Foto, das ich Ende März von der Startrampe der Artemis-1-Rakete von der Straße zum Canaveral National Seashore aus aufnahm. Mein Standpunkt war nordwestlich von LC39B.
Bei der Gestaltung dieses Aufnähers zusammen mit Dr. Jorge Cartes wollte ich mir die Szene im Morgengrauen vorstellen. Die abnehmende Mondsichel steht am Himmel, die Sonne geht gerade über dem Horizont auf. Um den Aufnäher ausdrucksstärker zu gestalten, habe ich die Morgenfarben verstärkt. Die „Artemis“-Figur meines vorherigen Gedenkaufnähers ist dezent in den Hintergrund eingestickt und richtet ihren Pfeil auf den Mond – das Ziel von Artemis 1.
Vor fünfzig Jahren hatte ich einen ähnlichen Standpunkt südöstlich von LC39A, als Apollo 17 zum Start bereitstand. Der Start unserer letzten Mondrakete mitzuerleben, prägte meinen beruflichen Werdegang. Ich widme diesen Aufnäher den jungen Fachkräften der „Artemis-Generation“, die dies ermöglichen werden, und der Generation meiner beiden Enkel, die uns eines Tages zum Mars fliegen sehen werden. Ich hoffe, sie sind genauso von Artemis begeistert wie ich.“ Ich war bei Apollo.

The Artemis Exploration
„This patch was inspired by a photo I took in late March of the Artemis 1 SLS on the pad from the road to the Canaveral National Seashore. My POV was NW of LC39B.
In creating this patch with Dr. Jorge Cartes, I wanted to imagine the scene at dawn. The waning crescent Moon is in the sky, the Sun is just breaking the horizon. To be more attractive and powerful I enhanced the morning colors. The „Artemis“ figure from my previous commemorative is ghost stitched into the background, aiming her arrow towards the Moon – the destination of Artemis 1.
Fifty years ago I had a similar POV from just southeast of LC39A when Apollo 17 was poised for launch. Witnessing the launch of our last Moon rocket put me on my career path. I dedicate this patch to the young professionals „The Artemis Generation“ who will make this happen and two my grandsons generation who will one day see us fly to Mars. I hope they are as inspired by Artemis as I was with Apollo.“

Artemis écusson
Cet écusson s’inspire d’une photo que j’ai prise fin mars du lanceur Artemis 1 SLS sur son pas de tir, depuis la route menant à la Canaveral National Seashore. Mon point de vue se situait au nord-ouest du pas de tir LC39B.
En créant cet écusson avec le Dr Jorge Cartes, j’ai voulu imaginer la scène à l’aube. Le croissant de lune décroissant est visible dans le ciel, le soleil pointe à peine à l’horizon. Pour un rendu plus saisissant, j’ai accentué les couleurs matinales. La figure d’Artemis, présente dans mon précédent écusson commémoratif, est brodée en transparence sur le fond, pointant sa flèche vers la Lune, la destination d’Artemis 1.
Il y a cinquante ans, j’avais un point de vue similaire, juste au sud-est du pas de tir LC39A, lorsque Apollo 17 s’apprêtait à décoller. Assister au lancement de notre dernière fusée lunaire a été déterminant pour ma vocation. Je dédie cet écusson aux jeunes professionnels de la « Génération Artemis » qui rendront cela possible, ainsi qu’à la génération de mes deux petits-fils qui nous verront un jour voler vers Mars. J’espère qu’ils seront aussi inspirés par Artemis que je l’ai été par Apollo.
